Case study
Cutting fleet stoppages and delays at an open-pit mine
An open-pit mine with trucks, excavators and a crusher, where unreported stoppages cost whole shifts of production.
A representative scenario, built from the problems we see most often in this kind of site. Exact figures vary from one installation to another.
Starting point
The site runs a fleet of ten trucks between two extraction faces, the crusher and the waste dump, over an eight-hour shift. Tracking was done by radio and a shift sheet filled in at the end of the day.
Main problem
Without real-time position or status, an engine fault or a truck stuck in a queue only became apparent once the shift's output was already compromised. Fuel burned in queues and detours showed up nowhere.
Solution put in place
We installed location and status sensors on every vehicle, feeding COA Mine. The supervisor sees the whole fleet on a map, gets the alert as soon as a truck goes offline, and can divert a vehicle to refuel without leaving the desk.
Key results
By the end of the first quarter of use:
unreported downtime
tonnes hauled per shift
fuel burned per tonne
Day to day
What the team sees on screen
COA Mine — Frota em tempo realReal-time fleet map, with each vehicle's status and the alert sent to the driver.
Camião 04 — Ficha do veículoA truck's record: speed, fuel, load and destination, with the shift's history.
