Water and environment

Reservoirs, pumping stations and environmental measuring points sit, in most cases, far from an electrical panel and out of reach of a conventional data network. This is the context where a wireless sensor network solves the problem without civil works: the sensor runs on a battery for years, and the gateway covers several kilometres from a high point.

A real example

See this working in practice

A case built from the situations we see most often in this area, with the program working the way it would on your own site.

Situation

What is far away goes unmeasured

A reservoir at the top of a district, or an abstraction point outside the city, requires a trip for every reading. In practice the reading becomes weekly or stops altogether. Bursts are identified through complaints from people left without water, rather than through the pressure drop that preceded them.

Environmental measurement faces an equivalent challenge. An air quality station in a new district requires its own power supply and a link independent of the mobile coverage at that spot.

What we measure

  • Level in reservoirs, tanks and abstraction points
  • Flow and pressure on the distribution network
  • Volume on existing meters, through pulse reading
  • Temperature, humidity, wind and atmospheric pressure
  • Air quality, with particulates and gases as the case requires
  • Pump status, including running hours and stoppages
  • And other quantities, depending on what your operation needs to track.

What you get

A concrete result for the team

Readings without a trip

The points report on their own, reserving travel for actual interventions.

Level and pressure alerts

A reservoir falling faster than usual raises an alert before it empties.

History for regulatory reports

The series are archived and can be exported for the reports required by the relevant authority.

Works without local connectivity

The gateway stores the frames when the link drops and synchronises automatically once it is restored.

Coverage is validated before installation

We bring a gateway and a set of sensors to the site and validate signal quality at the relevant points. Only then do we determine how many gateways are needed and where they should be positioned.
