Situation
The failure happens outside monitoring hours
Paper logging happens in the morning and the afternoon. A door left ajar, a power cut at three in the morning, or a compressor losing performance go unnoticed until someone checks the value the next morning, when the product is already compromised.
There is also the question of documentary evidence. When you have to show that a batch stayed in range throughout storage, a hand-filled sheet has limited evidentiary value. What is needed is a timestamped, continuous record that cannot be filled in retroactively.
